For eyes that pop!

It’s all about the eyes this season, you can play it up for a dramatic look or keep it simple but flirty.

Here are some simple and quick tricks for eyes that pop:

DO

- Tried and tested: Fan of falsies?

Apply individual lashes to the outer corner of your eye for a flirtier look and eyes that look like they’re smiling.

DON'T
If you have shorter lashes, make sure these falsies are the same length as your normal lashes if you’re just applying them to the outer corner, otherwise it’ll look weird. It’ll be going from short short short to super long out of nowhere, think about graduation of length. You want it to look as natural as possible.

- Dabbing that little bit of shimmer on the inner corner of your eyes and blending it out, gives that nice sparkle, like a twinkle in your eye.

-Try a simple white eyeliner on your waterline to help brighten up your eyes and make them appear wider.

purple eyeshadow makes your brown eyes stand out
- Scared of using colour? Try something light first and when you’re brave enough try bright colours like purple for brown eyes or fuschia for blue eyes.

-Line the lower lash line with your favourite eyeliner colour and apply mascara to the top and bottom of your lashes. Simple but effective.
For that extra pop: choose an eyeliner with a bit of glitter in it like NYX eye/eyebrow pencil.

-Try a simple wash of taupe eyeshadow to your top lid and with a coloured eyeliner (whatever colour) simply line the top outer corner of your eye and blend up and out with a cotton tip.

Then apply the same colour to your lower lash line.

My favourite eyeliner to use when trying this out is Missha The Style eyeliner. It has the colour with all the sparkle you need. Just top it off with some mascara and you’re good to go.

Makeup tips for this autumn

So, our summer here has been pretty bad lately with all the rain which is weird, but autumn is coming up and I thought what kind of makeup looks good for autumn.
When I think of autumn, I think gloomy, rainy, sometimes it can be sunny, just really unpredictable kind of weather.

So here are a couple of makeup tips for this autumn.

You want a foundation that stays put no matter what the weather is, try Maybelline superstay makeup for 24hours (one of those foundations that work well with any kind of weather)

Keep your eyes simple with 2 coats of black mascara (top and bottom) and a wash of gold or copper eyeshadow across your top lid to make those eyes pop. Opt for earthy tones with a shimmer of gold on your inner corners. Always works when you want that little sparkle.

Even try a wash of coral eyeshadow with a flick of liquid liner. Flicks are great, they just make your eyes look like they’re constantly smiling. Or try it with just that flick of liquid liner by itself. Easy.

Lipstick lover? Opt for lighter shades of lipsticks like Revlon’s Wink for Pink or Just enough buff. These colours are great for Autumn, they give you that bit of colour without people staring at you like WOAH, that lip colour is too strong for a dull day like today.

Left: Wink for Pink. Right: Just enough buff

Powder blushes are great for autumn, you don’t want a colour that is too strong, just something that looks fresh and gives your cheeks a bit of colour. Try Shiseido’s accentuating powder blush in rosy beige B2.

All in all play up your eyes more this autumn, you can’t go wrong with just some mascara and simple eyeliner.

As for the hair, try some nice waves or a messy braid to the side. My favourite though, bad hair day or not, you can’t go wrong with a messy top knot. Casual yet sophisticated.

February 2012

past product of  the month

I’m officially in love with this perfume! I love trying out new perfumes and whenever I finish one I buy something completely different, but as for D&G 3 L’imperatrice, this is definitely one I will keep on buying. There are so many perfumes out there where you get over the smell after a while, but not this one.

Just one spray leaves you feeling very elegant and with a mixture of smells from a bit of watermelon and kiwi to a bunch of rose petals and a kick of sandalwood and jasmine, it really does leave a lasting impression and make heads turn.

As this perfume is part of a collection it isn’t available in any smaller sizes just one (100mL), but I have been hearing that they are thinking about discontinuing this smell, hopefully not though, as it is a really feminine and sweet smell which I believe a lot of ladies out there will like.

So if you don’t have it or haven’t tested it yet, go out there and have a sniff and enjoy it while it lasts.

SEE

The Body Shop Brow & Lash gel

I first discovered this when I was over at a friend’s place and she could not stop talking about how much she loved it.

The brow and lash gel helps to lengthen your eyelashes after you’ve applied your coat of mascara and also helps your eyebrows to stay set in place without worrying about any stray hairs. I tried it both ways, and I didn't like applying this gel to my eyes as the fumes would make my eyes teary, however as a brow gel it was fantastic. It really helped to define my brows, and tame them as well.

SMELL

Loud for Her by Tommy Hilfiger

I love the look of this whole perfume and the smell is amazing. This is a duo fragrance, so one for him and one for her.

This smell is a lot more floral with the scent of roses being more dominant. I found this to be one of the more simple yet effective perfumes out there.

A very pleasant and relaxing smell.

FEEL

Beauty Mineral Nail Buffer

I’m sure more than one of you have been approached by one of the Beauty Mineral Staff whilst shopping, and although you may run, think about it after you read this.

Instead of paying to get a manicure, what about an instant mani and pedi at home? With this nail buffer, there are 3 steps, smooth, buff and polish. Unlike most nail files they don’t treat your whole nail, just the tips and I found after using this, it left my nails with a smooth surface and a natural shine right after, making them look clean and healthy.

A lesson in curling lashes

Okay, it might be simple but there’s more to it than just curling them with your eyelash curler. Like how long should you curl it for? Or what type of curler is best?

Curling those lashes of yours can do so much. It gives your eyes an instant lift and opens them up just that bit more.

For flirtier lashes, try this:

1. Using a traditional eyelash curler, curl the base of your lashes and hold for 6 seconds, trust me it’s enough.
2.  Curl the middle section of your lashes and hold for 3 seconds
3.Curl the tips of your lashes and hold for another 3 seconds.
4. Apply 2-3 coats of mascara to the top lashes ensuring there is no dry time between the             process
5.  Repeat steps 1 -3
6.  Apply mascara on the bottom lashes for a dramatic look.
7.  Apply black eyeliner to your waterline

For an everyday look:

1. Comb eyelashes through with a clean and product free mascara wand
2. Curl base of lashes and hold for 6 seconds
3. Apply first coat of mascara by zigzagging from the bottom to the tips (this helps to separate the lashes and coat every hair)
4. Apply the second coat of mascara just to the top for a simple look or apply to the bottom lashes as well for a more defined look.

It can be a bit risky curling lashes after mascara is applied using your traditional eyelash curler, try investing in a heated eyelash curler, this way there’s no clumping of your lashes and less chance of ruining your mascara.

Types of eyelash curlers:

Traditional – great for all lashes

Got this as a gift from a friend, pretty sure it's MAC

Heated – one of my favourites, less risk of clamping your client’s skin and great for those who freak out when it comes to eyelash curlers.

I bought this at a Korean makeup store for $20

Classic without the edge - perfect as it allows you to grab more lashes and having no edge, clamping of your skin is avoided.

This Tweezerman eyelash curler costed me $17.50
