Some tips on kohl, liquid and gel eyeliners

Oh eyeliner, I mean come on who doesn’t love it. Eyeliner just puts that finishing touch to your eye makeup.

When I do my eyes, I like to put mascara on both the top and the bottom and with that I apply some eyeliner through the top lashes and the bottom lashes to fill in the tiny gaps and it gives your eyes that more defined look and that extra pop.

The downside, a kohl pencil eyeliner isn’t going to last you all day.

Kohl eyeliner, crayon kohl in the colour mousse
-        Kohl eyeliners, come in a variety of colours and they’re great for lining the bottom lash line with your favourite colour, try some blue on the lower lash line if you have brown eyes.

-        With kohl eyeliner, they are very easy to blend due to their creamy and smooth texture. Doing a smokey eye for the night, apply kohl liner first to the base of your lids and blend it out. Adding that kohl liner first before you apply the shadow, intensifies the colour.

-        Always apply concealer or foundation to your eyes when you’re working with kohl eyeliners and don’t forget to powder them lightly, it’s just easier to blend that way.

If you want some longer lasting eyeliner try:

-        Liquid liners, these are great for the top of your eyelids and drawing that little cat eye flick at the end.

Never put liquid liner on the bottom lash line, they look best on top.

-        liquid liners as their name suggests, is wet and you need to allow that dry time before you open your eyes as it’ll smudge.

-        Can’t seem to get that exact straight line every time you apply liquid liner to the top, wait until the liner has dried and then use a cotton tip to buff away any mistakes.

-

Gel eyeliners, these are one of my favourites at the moment. They just last that much longer and like liquid liners they’re quite smudge proof.

-        Gels are very smooth in texture and glides on well.

-        It has more of a silkier feel to it compared to liquid liners

-        You can apply gel eyeliners to the top AND the bottom of your eyes as it has a softer finish.

With any eyeliner application especially on your top lids, make sure you lift the skin of your eyes so you can get the colour right to the base of your top lash line.

Dark circles, what dark circles?

Dear dark circles under my eyes, why won’t you just go away?

Although there are tonnes and tonnes of different concealers out there that can help you in hiding those dark circles, there’s no permanent fix for them. Annoying I know.

You can hide them all you like with concealer but when it’s been a long day and you’re just really tired, they’re going to show. People are going to be like, what’s wrong with your eyes? Or why are your eye bags so dark? I know how you feel. I get it from time to time when I just don’t get the sleep that I need. People can be so mean.

So if you wake up one morning and you know you have a long day ahead of you and you just haven’t gotten your beauty sleep, here’s something that I do that I’d like to share with you all.

1.    CONCEALER!
Is a must as always, I think out of every makeup product out there concealer has got to be my favourite. With the type of concealer you use, opt for one that is creamier, you’ll find that it’s easier to blend onto the skin and gives a bit more coverage.

2.   EYE SHADOW
If you’re not one of those I’m just good with mascara on my eyes kind of girl and need some eyeshadow. Apply the colour only to your top lids. This way the attention is drawn to the top part of your eyes instead of the bottom.

3.    MASCARA
Mascara lover? You sound like me. I love mascara so just like applying eyeshadow, apply mascara to your top lashes only. Applying them on the bottom creates a dark shadow and you want to draw attention away from that area.

4.    NUDE EYELINER
Finally, we’ve all heard about white eyeliner on your inner rim, but if you find that white can be a bit daring try a nude eyeliner. This is perfect as you’ll find it suits all skin colours and just lightens up that area and the nude colour gives a more natural look.

SEE

Mirenesse tight liner in Sapphire Blue

My least favourite thing to do is applying liquid liner, but it has to be done. With clients, I like to use an angled brush, but for myself, I would prefer to use the calligraphic pens which allow you to apply the liner like a pen to paper. What I like about this particular liner was the tip, and how it was thin and fine which helped to give you that perfect flick at the end. The colour was also quite strong with just one swipe. Usually I would have to go over it to get that strong colour I needed with other liquid liners.

Caroline’s tip: For that perfect flick at the end, aim the point up towards the end of your brows.

SMELL

Christian Audigier Ed Hardy – Love Kills Slowly perfume

This was actually the very first perfume I ever purchased. Before it, I used to be into all the spray scents like Impulse and Evoke. When I took my first sniff of this perfume, I loved it. The scent took me on a journey. It had that warmth with the vanilla essence followed by a mixture of rose petals and a slight fruity smell, but it was very thick. Thick in the sense that it can be quite overpowering as the musk throughout the perfume can be quite strong and if you’re not big on those musky smells, I wouldn’t recommend it as the musk is the last thing you smell and definitely lingers through your nose.

FEEL

Facial exfoliator sponge

No particular brand, I just purchased this at target for $3 for 2 pieces, but it doesn’t matter what you use as long as the sponge is slightly rough. Exfoliating is great! You should definitely be exfoliating two to three times a week with your foam or gel cleanser or if you’ve purchased those scrubs with the beads in them, they’re great too. With exfoliating, you might not think too much of it, but it really helps to lift the dirt and oil in your pores whilst also minimizing the size of them too. After every exfoliation you can always see the difference. Just top it off with your moisturiser.

For eyes that pop!

It’s all about the eyes this season, you can play it up for a dramatic look or keep it simple but flirty.

Here are some simple and quick tricks for eyes that pop:

DO

- Tried and tested: Fan of falsies?

Apply individual lashes to the outer corner of your eye for a flirtier look and eyes that look like they’re smiling.

DON'T
If you have shorter lashes, make sure these falsies are the same length as your normal lashes if you’re just applying them to the outer corner, otherwise it’ll look weird. It’ll be going from short short short to super long out of nowhere, think about graduation of length. You want it to look as natural as possible.

- Dabbing that little bit of shimmer on the inner corner of your eyes and blending it out, gives that nice sparkle, like a twinkle in your eye.

Missha The Style eyeliner pencil white

-Try a simple white eyeliner on your waterline to help brighten up your eyes and make them appear wider.

purple eyeshadow makes your brown eyes stand out
- Scared of using colour? Try something light first and when you’re brave enough try bright colours like purple for brown eyes or fuschia for blue eyes.

-Line the lower lash line with your favourite eyeliner colour and apply mascara to the top and bottom of your lashes. Simple but effective.
For that extra pop: choose an eyeliner with a bit of glitter in it like NYX eye/eyebrow pencil.

NYX eye/eyebrow pencil in GOLD.

-Try a simple wash of taupe eyeshadow to your top lid and with a coloured eyeliner (whatever colour) simply line the top outer corner of your eye and blend up and out with a cotton tip.

Then apply the same colour to your lower lash line.

Missha The Style eyeliner in violet and white.

My favourite eyeliner to use when trying this out is Missha The Style eyeliner. It has the colour with all the sparkle you need. Just top it off with some mascara and you’re good to go.

Missha The Style Dual Eye tip in Violet

If you haven’t heard of Missha, it’s a Korean brand that focuses on providing everything from makeup to skincare and fragrances. The Dual Eye tip is great for those quick touch ups where you’re eyeliner has smudged or eyeshadow is barely visible anymore. On one end you have your eyeliner which does contain glitter so not the best to use on your waterline and on the other your eyeshadow that has a sponge tip applicator where you simply dip into the cap and apply the shadow to the eyes, this is especially great for dabbing the shimmer on the inner corner of your eyes.

Smell

Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift

I love when celebrities create their own fragrances and when smelling Wonderstruck I found it to be very warm at heart. It made me feel calm. Although it does have a sort of fruity smell to it, the vanilla essence is quite endearing. You can definitely smell a hint of sandalwood which I felt went really nicely with the other smells that made up this fragrance.

Feel

NAK dry klean dry shampoo

You just got back from work, you’re already running late and your hair feels so gross that you need to wash it, but if you do you’ll never make it out of the house.
Dry shampoos are great for all you busy bees out there. I’ve heard all the fuss about dry shampoos so I tried it myself and ladies, it works! It saves you heaps of time as it is a weightless powder simply sprayed onto the roots of your hair and leaves your scalp feeling clean, refreshed and oil free. Formulated with Apricot Kernel Oil, it helps to soften and moisturize your hair and also absorbs any excess oil.
